hello fall.

is it fall?? i can't believe that summer is "officially" over....although you would never know that here by the weather. the only way you could tell it's fall is by the leaves covering my yard....anyone want to volunteer to rake them??

wow.

we literally just rolled into town about 45 minutes ago....i rushed in to put on tay's first day of school outfit- wet a brush to try and tame her crazy hair...i dumped the kennel, cooler, fishing rods, suitcases, and food in the middle of the floor so i could pack tay back in the car to get her to school on time. we went into the classroom and played baby dolls. i acted like i was looking for a bottle for the babies and snuck out of the door.... now i am back home staring at this mess i have created, hoping tay is having a wonderful first day of school and trying to inhale my coffee as fast as i can b/c i am so tired....seriously, is it only 9:30??

the hanging swing....

when asked what every household needs, jonathan alder summed it up best:

The hanging chair. Every house should have a hanging chair. There is a constant battle over who gets to sit and swing...

well let the battle begin, because as of yesterday, i can now say that our household is the proud owner of one! sitting in a pile of junk (literally, it was next to a walker), i scored this amazing vintage rattan swing for a major steal. i don't think anyone in the store had a clue what it was...i have wanted a swing for so long and was sick to my stomach when i passed one up 2 yrs ago. i want to put it in taylor's big girl room. wouldn't you have loved a swing in your room?!! or she would fit nicely on our future home's porch (i am sure it will have a great one- ha ha). regardless, i couldn't be more excited!
but beyond that, this really just solidifies my idea that you really can find anything you might want out there for a steal....you just have to be patient b/c you never know when it might show up.....

The Designer's Attic...

i'd like to introduce you to my newest venture....the designer's attic. it's a new blog i have created out of necessity. i live in a town jam-packed with goodies and it is impossible for me not buy an item when i spot a steal. my poor attic is busting at the seams with treasures i have held onto in hopes of eventually having a home for them. now, these little guys are ready to have a new home with you...
so what's in store at the designer's attic? items like thomas o'brein sconces, cole and son, osborne and little, victoria hagan fabric, sea cloth, and some vintage finds thrown in the mix. i will be updating regularly with my latest treasures so keep checking if you don't spot something that interests you right away!! and don't worry, pink wallpaper will definitely not suffer in the process! the only change will be that the feature fabric will now be on the designer's attic!
on another note, i just want to say a huge thank you to all of my readers. i am so blown away with the support, comments, and friendships that have developed from pink wallpaper...y'all are just the BEST! i never knew that all of this could happen from starting a little blog :)

featured fabric (quick switch don't hate)....

okay, i know i totally teased you with the quadrille fabrics yesterday but after talking with the showroom, i had to make an executive decision...they have raised their fabric order to a 5 yard minimum...which is a lot to ask for a featured fabric over $100. however, if any of y'all are interested in one of the fabrics, i will gladly check their stock and if they happen to have it in stock, they will allow orders under 5 yards (and as always w/ a featured fabric, a discounted price will be given).
OKAY, so with all of the chaos over with, now onto it's replacement (i hope y'all are just as excited).....Chaing Mai Dragon by Schumacher. it's a classic and it's been blogged about over and over again...and now, it can be yours....

Suggested retail price $206; featured fabric price $120: available in 4 colorways

for inquiries please email me at: shannon@shannondarbydesign.com. orders are placed through pay pal and the fabric will be shipped ups ground directly to your home (once your pay pal transaction has cleared). this sale will last until 10-04-09.

color restraint.....

layering neutrals are a perfect way to create a charming space for anyone struggling w/ color...but one of the keys is to be sure to mix light and dark elements to build that wonderful definition.
