when i see an old clawfoot cast iron tub, i am immediately taken back to my childhood....i grew up in a 100+ yr old house that my parent's renovated themselves. all of the bathrooms, except for my brother's, had clawfoot tubs. they were great for taking baths- super deep so the water could get really high w/ out overflowing (except for the one time i fell asleep w/ the water on...the library ceiling unfortunately paid for that mistake). my mom painted all of the bottoms of the tubs. mine was (and still is) red. it matched an accent bird on a vintage scalamandre wallpaper that the previous owner's had in the bathroom. i hope that one day i can have a clawfoot tub in our house....and i, like my mom, would have to paint the bottom a fun accent color!

ReplyDeletei've told my husband the next house we buy must absolutely have a clawfoot tub!
ReplyDeleteI love how versatile their style can be!
ReplyDeleteWe always try to get our homeowners to put clawfoot tubs in their houses. I am always surprised when people don't like them because I ADORE them!

i just discovered your blog a love it! so many lovely photos and full of inspiration!
ReplyDeleteI'll take the green one!
ReplyDeletei currently have a claw foot tub and we painted it gray. i love it, i just wish we didn't have to use shower curtains on it b/c it becomes a lot less chic when they're on there.
ReplyDeleteDitto on the memories...such sweet fun. I keep hoping to find one in a salvage yard or on craigslist but they're always snapped up.
ReplyDeleteI want to paint mine periwinkle...
clawfoot tubs are the best. i also grew up in an old house with a clawfoot tub and have the best memories! I've put one in nearly every house we've done as adults, except our current home and i miss it loads. won't be making that mistake again in the future!
ReplyDeletei'm a big fan of them and hope to have one in a bathroom one day!
ReplyDeleteI have always lived in fairly new houses so I have never had a clawfoot tub, but I have always wanted one. I secretly want to paint the bottom of it pink!! Hopefully the next house! :)
ReplyDeleteOoooh! Wish you had a pic! I've never seen the BOTTOM of a claw-foot painted - Way clever and cool is your Mom. Guess you come by your stylish ways naturally!
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend!
I think I'm in love with that green tub. Oh my!
ReplyDeleteThese are the best, you soak and dream, big enough for more then one, oh yes!
ReplyDeleteI love that your mom did that! Jenna Lyons's master bath had a clawfoot tub that I fell in love with. Someday, when we have the money to build a master bath, I will definitely have a clawfoot tub. And I might install some sort of stopper on the faucet, so that it doesn't overflow into my office below!
ReplyDeletelove it, love it, love it! my grandmother has a clawfoot tub and bath time was always fun! i told her the day she does not want it anymore i will gladly take it!
ReplyDeleteWe installed a clawfoot tub as part of our bathroom redesign and love walking into our bathroom and seeing it every day. Thanks for sharing these inspiring pics.. well, perhaps with the exception of that green one... yeah. That's an abomination.
