hummm, as i scroll through my pictures i found a lot w/ antlers in them. do i have a fascination w/ antlers and am unaware? we aren't a family that hunts but it is a decorative accent that gives a little edginess....so what are you thoughts: trendy, cool, over it, or keep it in the cabin?

I really liked the white lighting fixture made up of antlers, but otherwise I definitely think antlers should just be kept in the cabin!
ReplyDeleteI like them. I totally agree with you that they give off an edgy vibe. It totally would not work in my home, but I love the look!
ReplyDeleteLove deer - I have a fake deer head that goes over my fireplace (that I got from PB Teen!) and I love it - I like hanging ornaments on his antlers at xmas...
ReplyDeleteummm so I have been searching for a reasonably priced plastic deer head to do a DIY project and have yet to find one!!!
ReplyDeleteI've been covering that white antler chandelier for awhile now!!! Can't find a look alike for less than $500 though, arrgg!! Love the look!
ReplyDeleteI was thinking that too! I have been bookmarking a lot of pics with antlers in rooms. I think it's an interesting way to make a room slightly more manly. As long as they aren't real!
ReplyDeleteOh yikes, I know that a lot of people probably think that antlers are great, but living in South Carolina and coming from a hunting family, it's just a little too "Look Ma, I mounted last month's buck" for me.
ReplyDeletejamie ray would be proud.
ReplyDeleteI like them! Especially when they're unexpected (not in rustic spaces). Yes, they're kind of trendy, but not as much if they're practical at the same time (and you hang things from them).
ReplyDeletei like them. in a cabin to me it's just too contrived. i like them in an urban setting. in unexpected places. i really like the cardboard ones that i saw in urban outfitters the other day. tres chic and very affordable. they add interest.
ReplyDeleteI love them as well. Only if I had a second home to get that chandelier.
ReplyDeleteGenerally not a fan -- it's too trophy hunting and the wood or paper maiche antlers just seem like they're trying too hard to be edgy or ironic or something.
ReplyDelete...that said though, those rooms ARE lovely. Perhaps their frequent appearance in your tear sheets is just because they've been so popular for the past few years?
Love that Dan Carithers shot with the French painting- I remember it from the Southern Accents Showhouse, lovely!
ReplyDeleteGreat post! Antlers are such a fun accessory! They fit into so many different room settings!
ReplyDeleteMichelle
so many wives in the South have to deal with this, bless 'em for it! I definitely prefer just antlers to a full-blown trophy, and I think it's kind of fun to treat them irreverently, like in the first and last photos.
ReplyDeletejust can't do it, can't do the antlers. Grew up in a family of hunters and they were all over our walls my whole life.
ReplyDeleteAlthough, I wish we'd decorated them at Christmas!
You are making me love antlers. I never thought I would, but I really like the ideas you have given me. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteI've been seduced by the antlers myself. only when they're used in unexpected ways, though! that's why when i found this at a flea market i snatched it up. the juxtaposition of antler with a silver beaded stand just seems hilarious to me. kind of like the antlers holding the bag in the kitchen. but i just can't find a place for it in my home...so i'm passing it along via my etsy store in case someone else might like it.
ReplyDeleteso i thought i'd post a link to it in case anyone here is looking for an ironic, faux antler piece :)

thanks!
Living somewhere (wyoming) where antlers definitley are overdone I have formed a bit of a dislike for them. However, all these rooms show them in such a contemporary and refreshing un-rustic way!
ReplyDeleteI am a total fan! I have a pretty classic/clean decor..with real antlers, and fake mixed in. It's a little edgy, and a great conversation piece! Go for it!
ReplyDeleteI love to see these beautiful rooms with antlers (hunters call them Horns) in them. We are a hunting family, and have them in every room. I think they can be very attractive when done right. thanks for sharing these great images.
