do i have to explain?:

I KNOW, I KNOW...i must grow up. i stayed up all night practically watching the hills recap marathon....my husband rolled over in the middle of the night and saw my eyes open; then looked at the clock- it said 1:30...
i couldn't get out of the bed to get my daughter this AM...instead i put a pillow over my head.
please excuse the lack of luster from this post: i like pink...i heart that freakin chair...now i'm going to drink my coffee...black.

one down...

twenty nine more to go....
i would love for this image to magically appear in my kitchen. i have one old locker basket and from the looks of it, i just need 29 more to complete this look!! i love everything pictured here...the industrial blue shelving, the metal baskets, the school house lights, and the word 'grocery' written above just sums up the whole experience.

twinkle lights....

there's something magical about twinkle lights; it's like those tiny little lights bring instant comfort to a room. they seem as if they are begging you to stay in bed...especially on a day like this- dark and rainy.

mod green pod

i first became aware of this organic fabric and wallpaper company when i was searching for fabric for my daughter's nursery two years ago...mod green pod had just been featured in domino. i was stressing out about what fabric to use in her room....so i did what i thought was best, let my husband decide (well kind of- i had narrowed it down to three winners)! he selected butterfly jubilee. mod green pod was such a sweet company to work with...when i called to order the fabric i spoke directly with one of the creators who was excited to hear that i had found them from the recent mag article.
i recently found them again when browsing a website spruce....they now have a blog. i checked out their website and was so excited to see how much press they have gotten over the years. so congrats girls! organic fabric is definitely on the rise thanks to these girls and of course another fav of mine rubie green (have you seen michelle's new bedding line...to die for)!

"red" all over....

generally red is not a color that i gravitate to when decorating my own home but these images are an exception! that first picture w/ the adorable mother and daughter has me smitten and i cannot get enough of those insanely beautiful chevron floors in that reading room!

the return of the cafe curtain...

when i started working for a designer (10 yrs ago) in college, i remember making faces when she would mention words like balloon shade, swag and jabot, or cafe curtains when we were brainstorming for window treatments for clients...i can now laugh at myself as i ponder where i could incorporate cafe curtains into my own home...i love the simplicity of them and how great they show off a fabric...i actually just put a pair in a client's home!

don't judge me.....

so i have been doing this thing called procrastination...i'm a major sucker for this activity...i somehow find myself participating in it often...daily events like waiting until 5:00 to clean the house before my husband comes home...so picture me running, shoving random pieces of mail and clothing in drawers so it looks like i have been slaving away all day...
and then there is the major procrastination...preparing for taxes...i would compare this task to pulling an all nighter in college...you know, where you have known all semester that you have a 20 pg term paper to write but somehow you go out every night until the day before and that's when you have a mental breakdown...yea, that's me....we have to meet w/ our accountant tomorrow...that's why tonight it's important to go to a concert...can't you tell i have matured a lot in the past 10 yrs....

yellow shutters never looked so hot....

i am officially obsessed with this house and the family....sixx design is what i would define as "bad ass"(excuse my french but it's really the best way to describe them)....six children (hence the name of their company) and two masterfully talented/hot parents...i don't know how they do it but what they can pull off in design is unbelievable....if you haven't seen their portfolio or book, you should totally check it out.

the conversation i would have had....

so sometimes this blog serves as a random collections of thoughts, an outlet for design inspiration, or just as a source of energy to communicate with the outside world. while i love having my own company, i miss the interaction of having people to talk to over your morning coffee...at my old firm, i had four other girls that i still consider great friends...we knew every aspect of each others lives (literally b/c we had been together for five yrs), we would vent when things were going wrong, we would laugh until our bellies hurt, we would drink wine together when the clock hit 5:00...i miss that part...
if i was in an office this AM, i would pour a cup of coffee and then go sit on the desk of a fellow coworker and say "did you see the city last night...jay's crying looked ridiculously fake" or "i hate random white vans...they totally crept me out whenever i see them in my neighborhood" or "gosh, i hope the teachers at tay's school don't think i am a degenerate mom b/c i put a white skirt on my child before easter"....
instead, i'll think those thoughts to myself...sip my reheated coffee and pray it doesn't get cold before this post ends....

"czech" chair...

there is something about the hermann czech chair, part of the bentwood fam, that has caught my interest lately....it's the legs that have me drooling..they are like a dip cone...i'm fascinated w/ how the white paint stops mid leg to expose the natural beechwood....very chic!

bread box...

i inherited my love for antiques and vintage finds...my parents have taken me to antique stores my entire life. i spent many saturdays wondering around the huge warehouses at lakewood and scotts...unfortunately, i could have cared less at the time...it pains me to think about it. i would kill to be able to go to lakewood now (may it rest in peace)!
for christmas and my birthday a couple of years ago, my mom and dad gave me a vintage bread box and flour tin. i adore them. i have always wanted one b/c that is where we always kept our bread growing up. i can't wait until i have a kitchen with open cabinetry where i can really show them off....but in the mean time, i'll enjoy them sitting on my counter and giving me thoughts of home.

the power of paint...

if you are craving change in your house but don't feel like you can spend a ton of money, pick up a paint brush. it's one of the easiest and cheapest ways to get a huge impact. if you are moving into a new home but the floors or stairs are showing age or look dull- white paint can be your best friend. add impact by picking a color to spice up the risers of the stairs or the trim and doors. or think outside of the box with the walls, explore with new colors that you wouldn't typically pick out....

a moment to myself...

i've been running around nonstop for a week...being on the go makes me want to take a second for myself...i need a little serenity in my life- to sit and drink my coffee and listen to music and daydream....
