future makeover...

i want to add some charm to our front porch....the first thing that would make it cuter would be wonderful ferns and great potted plants by the door, but considering it's january, i am starting by thinking about the front door. I have been in love with the front door from martha stewart forever. Our door is red and I plan on keeping it that way but I thought it would be fun and inexpensive to paint the No. 1 (of course i would add our correct house number) onto it. I also love the plaid doormat that was featured in country living in dec. (unfortunately it's on backorder). and the next thing would be to change the lighting the builders installed when the house was built. i am thinking something from barn light electric...i love the atomic topless guard sconce. so that's my daydreaming...i'll keep you up-to-date on what happens :)

  4. I love that light! It reminds me of the lighting and accessories I used around our house. It especially looks like my sons towel bar in his bathroom that we made from materials at home depot. Great stuff!!!!

  5. Very cute inspiration! I finally found something that is just about maintenance free for my front door pots...boxwood bushes...they really inexpensive and they hold their pretty round, ball shape - and best part, very little water!

  6. Shannon,
Congratulations on your baby news! I'd say you've had plenty on your plate the last few months! Good luck in Beaufort. I was there recently for a friend's engagement party and it is such a charming mini-Charleston!

  9. I've been loving on that painted address, too! Unfortunately, the county just changed our address (we have a townhome) from a number to a letter! Not as fun. I got a similar doormat at Target. They might still have it.

  10. Once the decision to make a change is made, the hardest part can be figuring out what exactly the change will be. I'd say you've got some great inspiration pics and ideas to get you going.

  11. I just ordered our door number from wonderful graffiti (that door is my inspiration, too!) I also went with Georgian Green by Ben Moore on our door, front and back--the best green ever! Good luck, Julie

  13. Love the colored doors. You are inspiring me to paint ours red. A scary decision but perhaps okay when paired with that great welcome mat!

  19. The green door is fantastic! And, go with the painted numbers. I added that idea to my Houzz Ideabook just a couple of days ago.

The galvanized light fixture is to-die-for and I wish I had a spot for it in my home.

  21. I thought you were painting it lime green for a second. That would have been BOLD. Idid those numbers on my door for $6 and in less than 15 minutes- and it looks like it was pinted on, look for yourself:
