two weeks...

i have officially been on bed rest for two weeks. you learn a lot about yourself when you're stationary.... and while i try (really hard) to have an optimistic outlook on the situation, i would be lying to say it's not incredibly hard. you might find some tears rolling down my face on any given day. mostly b/c i hate having to rely on someone else to do everything for me (and b/c i am pregnant and pregnant people cry a lot). it's hard to give up control of yourself. and while i never knew i was a controlling person, i have realized that i like to have an opinion in most all situations. i cannot thank my husband enough for what he has had to become. i always knew he was amazing but to watch him be a dad, a husband, a housekeeper, a cook, a chauffeur, a grocery shopper, a dog walker, a waiter, a laundry folder, a carpool picker upper, and so much more- amazes me. he does funny things like hide the receipts from me when he gets home from the grocery store, he buys taylor outfits that maybe a little bit more tomboyish then i would prefer, he asks girls in the make up aisle what concealer is (and bless his heart, he comes home w/ some that would look amazing on a really tan person), he goes into freak out mood when i have contractions and makes me call the doctor....but mostly, he makes me so incredibly proud to have him by my side....and he puts a smile on my face everyday (even if i sometimes don't feel like doing it).

  1. Oh, he's a keeper! Hang in there. I can't imagine how hard this is, but it will be all worth it in the end.

  2. Well, I read your post and my heart goes out to you while you sit and wait. Waiting is tough. But I have to say that you are a pretty lucky gal to have a dear, sweet husband like yours. You guys are a team, and together you are waiting out the balance of your pregnancy. Once you get to delivery this tough time will evaporate.

Good book? Olive Kitteridge, by Pulitzer Prize winning author, Elizabeth Strout.
    Sending prayers from Dallas.

  3. I know exactly how you feel. I was on bedrest the ENTIRE time with my second pregnancy. I had to hand over everything to my husband and mom. They took care of my daughter and the house while I had to lay in bed in the bedroom because I was only allowed to get up for bathroom breaks and dr. appts.

    Hang in there :)

  4. Oh Shannon, sounds like no fun to sit in bed all day. Well, actually it sounds like it would be nice for about 6 hours and then the crazy would start to set in pretty quick.
Thank goodness for your sweet and supportive husband. It sounds like he is ready for this little boy baby to do all sorts of tough guy things with! :)
Hang in there! Its all worth it.

  6. This is such a sweet post - and I can relate a little b.c I was on my back for 2 weeks with a bad case of pneumonia last fall...my husband literally did everything too. Took care of me + kids. I had to let go of so many of my control issues - many of which I didn't realize I had until I was down and out. And there were lots of strong emotions when I had to sit there and face myself for hours on end. You should have seen some of the "Daddy" meals our kids ate during that time period. I had to turn away and just not look. It was comical.

You are doing such a noble thing: creating and preserving a life...a little person who will someday create more lives in your family. What a gift you are to your baby - to your whole family! And your husband is such a precious gift to you (and both of your babies).

    xoxo

  11. Aw.... How much longer do you have left?

Honestly, I was the crankiest pregnant person ever and I had nothing at all wrong with me, so I seriously sympathize.

Lets think of fun things you can do in bed:
    1.Blog
    2. E- decorate for people.
    3. Google yourself (WINK WINK)
    4. Watch Married with Children Reruns
    5. Draw
    6. Knit
    7. EAT - no time like the present to get nice and plump and indulge all your food fantasies.
    8. Read

Ok thats all I could come up with. Feel better!!!!

  12. Awww...I hate to read this. I can't imagine how frustrating bed rest would be. A good friend of mine was forced to go on bed rest for 10 weeks!!! She nearly drove herself up the wall....

I'd definitely go on Netflix overload, eat til I felt sick and read until you can't keep your eyes open anymore.

  13. Sounds like you've got yourself a pretty good hubby! I'm a total control freak too and I can't imagine having to give it up. When my lovely husband arranges the throw pillows I totally go back and rearrange them and that's just the tip of the iceberg!

You should have someone come and give you an at home peticure ~ just a thought... Hang in there....

  16. I totally sympathize with your situation...I was on bedrest with my first child for 6 weeks, actually nothing compared to your 17! I taught myself to needlepoint, read a ton of books, and cried a lot. It is so much more difficult for you since you have a toddler too - but probably a great experience for your husband and daughter. Keep up the good resting! I only got to get up to shower and to eat meals...

  29. I laugh as I read your post today, only because I am on week 2 of very limited activity, also trying to be upbeat. 30 and had surgery on a herniated disk, so 1/3 of the way through with recovery. I am really appreciated my husband and all of the responsibility he has taken on. Unable to take a shower the first week I went to the salon to have my hair washed, I guess a flashfoward of future years to come:) Good luck and many blessings,
    Kristin
