big girl.

taylor and i went shopping yesterday in hopes of finding an outfit for picture day.  she informed me that she was a big girl and that she can pick out her own stuff now.  i said "okay, sounds great"....then she exclaimed the only thing she wanted was a pair of princess shoes that light up on the bottom like sarah and jake have (ok maybe jake has buzz light year).  i fought back the urge to say something like "seriously, you like those" or "good, gosh no"!!  i just watched her as she walked out the door w/ bright red flashing lights going off on her cinderella tennis shoes...and she truly couldn't have been any happier :)

Oh gosh.. Ive been there too... but it was for bright blue skinny jeans for my son, he wanted them so bad!.. i let him get them, and he feels like a million bucks when he wears them, you can see it in his face... guess we just have to pick our battles! I bet those light up shoes are her fav thing!

You are a better mom than me! Were you at Tar-jay by chance? I had a similar conversation with my 2 year old last week. I told her no for one reason, I don't do characters. I was met with a blank stare...she obviously didn't get the point because she asks about those shoes every day!!

Shannon- this post made me smile. And it reminded me of what Michael and I recently learned in a parenting Bible Study. If you don't have a reason to say no... don't say it.

My first thought of the shoes would be- heck no... they are tacky. But just look at the joy that they bring her. So, so sweet. (please email me in a few years and remind me that I said this when my little one wants to wear something that I'm not all for!!!)

LOL, I think the same thing when I see those blinky shoes. But my niece LOVES her pair. What are you gonna do?

Love that Amanda Talley and Gramercy girl room.

sometimes you just have to pick your battles, I can't remember exactly how I heard it but they are not influenced by style but creating their own...

I madly love the art over the chest with the pink lamps. It looks so familiar but I can't place the artist -- any thoughts?

Oh, and I just about died when my hubby came home having bought new shoes for my boys -- Stride Rites with fire trucks on the side that LIT UP. Of course, those were the favorites. SIGH. ;-)

Oh I know... I have fought against them for years but finally gave in. Puma's & Geox have some fun stylish light up shoes. But I know to the kids its all about princesses and transformer ones!

Just got to fight the big fights and let the others go...good for you!!

Oh that is hilarious! I might've fainted just a bit at the request. You handled it well. Hopefully I will do the same. I know this time is coming with my four year old:)

You are a great mom! I love to see what the little ones in my class will wear. Its usually really cute and crazy outfits and I think its great to let them shine in their own way. Its either now or in high school...BTW, I love the lilac lamps in the fourth pic. I just want to reach into the picture and steal them:)

Great mom moment. Since we did my four year old say things like, "I don't like the style of this sweater, mom." She is suddenly so hard to shop for!
