kitchen painting

my kitchen is definitely a work in progress.  the previous owners had lots of green accents throughout the house and so the wall color made perfect sense.  however, with our stuff moved in, it kind of sticks out like a sore thumb.  i have until friday to make a decision and i keep flip flopping.  i can't decide whether to paint the cabinets white or go a greige (a light grey/ green color).  here are some of the kitchens that are inspiring me.  and i threw in a pic of our current kitchen for giggles...don't you love how i styled it!!  i mean, are those seriously bunny ears on the counter...see the kind of disaster i am living in!!??

speaking of kitchen, last night i had my inlaws over for supper (they live about 5 minutes away from us so it will probably be a weekly occurrence).  my parents had cooked a pizza the other weekend for me that i couldn't get out of my head and i was dying to try to make it....it's the strangest combination but divine- potato and leek pizza from the pioneer woman.  you have to try it- seriously!  luckily my inlaws know that i am a walking disaster case so when i dumped all the bacon on the floor that was suppose to go on the pizza, they just laughed and said we could always get take out!  luckily, i had more bacon to spare in the fridge and the pizza turned out good...at least everyone humored me and said that :)

  4. GREIGE! But I don't know why I'm saying that because I always fantasize about white kitchens. But how can you get that Sally Wheat kitchen out of your head?!?

  14. I think if you wear the bunny ears around the house your inspiration will hit ;)

I'm always a fan of painted wood. I just love it. I also really love the hardware on the cabinets!

Gotta try that pizza. Looks so yummy.

  19. I am going through almost the exact same dilemma...what to do with the kitchen! Everything in ours is white right now. But, just to complicate things, I want to do the ceiling a really zingy color..I have tons of reference shots, but none is MY kitchen so it's still tough...

  20. Sounds like you are settling in nicely...Love the rotary phone in your styled shot (and all of the paint chips and paint decks:) Can't wait to see the reveal!

  21. I say greige. It always looks clean and modern. LOVE your inspiration pics! Your blue rotary phone is fabulous. Good luck and please post "after" photos of your kitchen!!

  22. I LOVE the first and next to last pictures. My kitchen cabinets are pale gray, and I adore them. I love a white kitchen, but I have never looked back.

  23. i have white painted cabinets and i LOVE how they look but i am always wiping off fingerprints. every little smudge can be seen. I did however paint my island a light grey which is perfect, can't see every little imperfection. so i vote Greige. just don't get it too green!
    good luck

  24. I was gonna say white bc i looovvveee white kitchens and subway tile, but then i saw the greige i have to say i looovvveee that even more! Thats my vote all the way-greige!!!

  25. Hmm, right now I'd say go Greige... its soft and not too harsh for the fall winter months. But come springtime/summer, I would be wanting to change the Greige to a crisp white. What if you did white cabinets and trim with Greige walls? Perhaps the perfect amount of contrast? Whichever you choose, I'm sure it will be gorgeous!

  26. Greige. You won't regret it. It looks great with any accent color you go with... white, yawn.

  27. I was completely set to tell you to go with White until I saw all your pictures! I love that white kitchens remain classy throughout all the trends that come and go, but a lighter greige like some of those you've pictured (esp the first one!) is so gorgeous that I can't see it ever tiring! And with kiddos, a darker color that might camoflauge fingerprints might be nice at times :)

  28. Your post is my life right now....trying to make design decisions (which I don't do easily!) on how to update my 1985 kitchen cabinets...I vote for white (cream/ white) and greige on the island or like another comment said, greige walls. I love the color but in the back of my mind it seems like a color that won't always be in style so I'd want to be able to update it easily if I were to stay in the house a long time. Do you have any paint brands and #'s picked out?

  29. love those kitchens, babe. you know what I say, 'gray.' Probably a lightish gray is where I am headed next kitchen re-do.

but I need a little lotto $ first...

  30. I love greige too, and I'm about to be in this dilemma as well, but I will say the one thing I always think about is trends. White kitchens NEVER go out of style, whereas, gray is BIG now and although I love it, will we be over it in a few years??? I don't know, so I'm excited to see what you do and if you're happy with it. Good luck! Whatever you do will be adorable.

  31. Oh...This will be a piece of cake. So say I, happily ensconced in the background!

Love all of the images! Greige or white will look lovely!

And that pizza.....OH!!! I must try! We have a restaurant herethat does a mashed potato, carmelized onion and rosemary pizza. HEAVENon a crust!

  32. I am really excited about your kitchen. It looks like we have similar cabinets and I am trying to decide between the two colors you mentioned. Please go first - I know it will be amazing!!!

  33. I'm a huge fan of white cabinets, but I'm loving the greige pictures you posted. I say, go for it! Good luck in your new house.

  34. I'm feeling greige for sure, because sometimes white can look chintzy if not done right, but anything would be an improvement...I am not a fan of that wood. Believe me I have the same problem and I plan on painting mine a pale grey as soon as the weather cooperates. Good luck...looking forward to the after!

  35. I can totally relate to mess and renovation projects! I am installing new laminate flooring in my master bedroom and it's a circus in there! But I would suggest for you to paint the cabinets white, I think it will go great with the color of the wall and the dark counter-tops! All the best for your renovation coming up :)

  36. The pizza looks amazing and as much as I am loving greige right now I'm afraid it's maybe too 'right now' to do on cabinets. I love white - it's classic and easy to work around in terms of counters/wall color/etc. Plus I think white will look great with those black counters!

    ReplyDelete
  37. I always go back to white but griege is #2 for sure. No way around toys with kiddies. That pizza looks pretty fabulous!

  38. greige will look great with your black countertops. that green needs to go... quick. im sure whatever you choose it will come out lovely, and can certainly only be an improvement over the current color combo!!

  39. I love the kitchen in the fifth photo. Amazing! I love the vintage pendants, and the light grey cabinets. It appears from the photo that the inside of the cabinets are painted a charcoal grey...it looks amazing!

  40. I adore your inspiration photos. Since you aren't working with a existing wall color, I hope you aren't anyway, then I would go greige. You can make it al you. Looks like the cabinets are going to be a great base to work with. I am so on the fence about my cabinets....I want to start from scratch really but don't think that's possible. Good Luck!

  41. I love your blog! It's a tough decision on the cabinets because both color choices are so beautiful and timeless. I would choose white! It's my favorite. Please check out my blog and see the entry "I love a white kitchen" for more pics!
And leeks on a pizza sounds delicious!

  42. griege (and new hardware)! the countertop is so dark, white would be too much of a contrast. have fun! it's crazy how hard these decisions are to make for yourself, but you could make it for a client in two seconds.

  43. First of all, we know no matter what you end up doing it will be fab. And secondly, I personally love a white kitchen.

  44. I just LOVE potato and leek pizza, but I keep it vegetarian (no bacon). I also use fresh rosemary. Yum! Might have to make one this weekend for the Super Bowl.
