still undecided.

i was so going to play it safe and go white....i had my mind made up.  i talked to my mom; she said white.  i saw this pic on brad ford's website and i thought....yep that looks fab (as if i could compare that kitchen to my own).
and then i saw these on his site.....and now i am back on greige.  i have a problem: it's called, i seriously cannot make up my mind for my own house.  it's pitiful (my husband told me to quit playing it safe w/ white...well maybe not that politely- he might have told me to grow a pair).  two days until the painter calls asking my color.  yikes!  do you have a favorite griege color??!

i also got this pic from my FAVORITE lighting company, urban electric, this AM....it's now my inspiration for my hallway.....i don't know if i can talk warren into painting the floor but i love it and the lights are killer.

i love browsing that site....it's full of inspiration.  hello, i love this light.  she needs to live in my house....
happy hump day!  off to stare at paint chips on my super bright kitchen walls....

Go for White! Classic, timeless, you can always change around everything else in your kitchen and it will always match white. Greige can look a little dirty. White kitchens are the best!

I love that you call your lighting "she" I do the same thing! Is "she" by Amanda Nisbit? My favorite greige color is BM Early Morning Mist. I used it throughout my house on the walls. I say go for it (but totally understand the safety zone, I stayed "safe" and went with white. Whichever will be beautiful. Or go white and paint the inside greige??? (You know I am into painting the insides of cabinets!)

i just painted my whole house. did abbey white throughout the main areas, including kitchen walls and upper and the tall cabinets. lower cabinets are stonehenge greige. i think it turned out great! both are porter paints

eek. i am the same way about my house. i love the anew gray by SW. really that whole strip is pretty. looks more gray in some houses and more beige in others.

I really like the colour of that door picture. I can imagine how you must feel... so much choice!

I just painted my bedroom Wish by Benjamin Moore and Love it!!! It's a really soft, pretty color that seems to brighten the whole room, without being plain white.

Hope I can help you out because I have about 5 different paint colors on my kitchen walls right now as well...it's much more difficult when it's your own home! Good Luck!

I can relate! We are in the midst of a kitchen re-do (white cabinets) and I can't decide on a wall color to save my life (as if this is the hardest thing I've ever faced?!). I gravitate towards beige & grey, and my husband's reponse is the same--stop being so boring!

Good luck--can't wait to see what you choose!

I love the greige. I still think it is classic and timeless but with a little depth and richness. On her show Dear Genevieve recently the designer did a kitchen with pale grey cabinets. Perhaps you can find it on her show website. It was beautiful and would be a definite inspiration.

White is for wonder bread! Greige is so much interesting, the good news its paint and is not permanent. But we just came in from Paris and let me tell you we saw a lot of greige, gray, blue, almost NO white. I say go with the greige, its so rich and stunning!!
I posted a bunch of visually stunning pics from our Paris trip today, take a look- you might get inspired!

Grey is now; white is forever.

my mom believed there were only a few colours in the home design rainbow: white, off white and taupe. I'm not afraid of colour, but it takes me AGES to decide on anything besides blues. My condo is a farrow and ball violet/grey and it works.

I don't think you could go wrong with white or greige. what's the layout of the kitchen? is there an isalnd you can paint greige and leave the rest white? Your husbands advice is hysterical.

I do love white, but I feel like "greige" is just as classic-- it definitely puts me in mind of the Hamptons and the lovely, old colonial homes you might find there or in Williamsburg. Good luck!!

I am sooo wishy-washy when it comes to my own house. I cannot make up my mind.

I finally decided on SW Amazing Gray, and I'm crazy in love with it.

Depending on the light and time of day it changes from cool gray to almost a taupe. It's gorgeous and I don't regret it.

Good luck!

After a year of paint samples on our walls, I went with Pashmina by BM... It is beautiful...

I love both but I will say I went with white and they are turning greige thanks to my children! Both are classic, you won't go wrong. Also I did greige on my master ceiling with bead board and love it.

Go bold with the greige. I like Benjamin Moore Chelsea Gray. I can't wait to see your new painted kitchen.

I vote for the griege becauses we have a white kitchen now and while I love it, my 4 year old is constantly making marks and I'm always wiping!!!! Either one will look beautiful though I'm sure!!! Can't wait to see!

I was just at SW over my lunch hour picking our an assortment of griege color swatches myself. I've always loved white kitchens but I'm now leaning towards griege. My top picks at the moment are SW 7029-7032.

white! okay i'm biased. my kitchen and entire house is white. boring or not, i LOVE it!

Greige- seems like you want it, and you won't regret it!! My kitchen is the color of the door in that third picture- LOVE it. It is just as classic as white, and it almost looks white at times. I was the same way- went back and forth, thought about only painting the island, blah, blah, blah. I've never regretted it, and it's been three years.

I'd adopt that light fixture in a heart beat!

That is a hard decision. I think greige cabinets can be a classic choice - Martha Stewart's been doing it well for a long time. I love her Sharkey Grey paint color. Neutral but clean and warm at the same time. If you look at her cabinet line for Home Depot, she gives several paint suggestions and photos to help visualize. Good luck!

I like that your husband endearingly told you to grow a set :) Make a decision and see if your stomach feels wrangled in knots. If it still does, it may be the wrong one...

However, I think the greige is AMAZING, and so classic but fresh too. My aunt did her kitchen cabinets greige, and it looks dynamite! Either way, it will all work out!

Good luck!

i love Pointing white by Farrow and Ball and they have the most insane grays...lamp room gray and cornforth white are my favorite, take a look!

My cabinets are White Dove by BM. I love the color, but sometimes wish I had gone with a greige color. You can't go wrong either way.

I love that first kitchen. It is to die for. It definitely makes me think white, no doubt in my mind!

best advice I ever got for making a decision--put the two in a hat and draw one. You'll know when you pull it out what your gut really feels. If you're excited/relieved about it then that's the one to go with...if you cringe when you draw you know you really wanted the other...sure fire way to find out what you're gut is really telling you!

I love Benjamin Moore's Cumulous Cloud. I have it on a hutch in my kitchen. And let me tell you, it hides the dirty/smudgy fingerprints etc left by little hands much better than my off white cabinets in rest of kitchen. For cleaning alone, I'm doing the greige whole kitchen next time...

Danielle Sigwalt Interiors said...

I stand by my initial griege b/c white painted cabinets can look chintzy and griege is timeless...ben moore misty grey. Good luck!

I just did my kitchen (it's not complete, getting there, rather). I did greige on the base cabinets, white for the uppers. I love the paint I used (BM Rockport Grey). You can check it out at http://burkettfamily.blogspot.com/2011/01/house-parts-kitchen-part-deux.html. I LOVE THE GREY!!! LOVE IT!!!

Danika Herrick said...

Oh the griege, just so sophisticated. My favorite if C2's Shaker. Its a hair deeper than Ben Moore's Edgecomb Gray.
I'm dying to paint my cabs, so I will live vicariously here. Can't wait to see what you come up with.

Alison Royer said...

I am the same way! As designers we have access to too much information which makes it so hard to make design decisions in our own homes...at least for me!!

stephanie said...

Have you seen the color that the lady from august fields blog used? Is that griege? I love it! I know that she gives the name of the color. Good luck! I should mention....we did our kitchen about 9 months ago....and did white:)

Anonymous said...

Griege! Definitely. It still can read 'light', but is also warm, interesting, full of personality, works with most any other color and is current. As to your problem called, 'I seriously cannot make up my mind for my own house." I SO suffer from the same affliction and completely sympathize. One of my current favorites: Ben Moore's Hot Spring Stones. Reads beige, gray, pewter -all depending on the light. Yummy. Roxanne

I love BM sag harbor grey and revere pewter...have both in my house and get compliments all the time.

white cupboards, greige walls. You can always change the walls. Harder to change the cupboards. xx

Love that light(her) too!!
I have been following your blog daily :)

Oh -- Greige would be great! I am doing my kitchen cabinets in C2's Vex. Excellent color with a hint of green. Agreed that griege walls are easier to change than the cabinets, but I'm all in! good luck!

Wow, I'm in love with this kitchen ... I really love the white, clean look ... with the added muted colors.

Regarding your thoughts on the lantern: we second that opinion!!!

Stylelinx said...

I have the same problem- easy to decide for clients-hard to decide for ourselves! I say, go greige. It's as classic as white but more interesting and besides, I've seen it look white in certain light. White will just look white in any light. I love the greige kitchen you posted! Can't wait to see yours finished. -Roberta @ Stylelinx
ps- thanks for the Avett Bros. clip- made my day.
