randomness...

i didn't sleep well last night....i don't know why....okay, maybe i do.  i saw a beat up van drive down our street, twice.  so at 11:00, i create scenarios of why it was driving down our dead end road.  i hate that about myself.  i am the biggest scaredy cat.  i double check the alarm, peek at the baby monitor, turn on the TV....and pray, a lot, that my scenarios are not real.   maybe i should paint my nails hot pink and that will make it all better.
i went to scotts this past weekend.  i LOVE scotts.  it rocks.  lots of my bff's live in GA.  i always try to meet up w/ them when i go.  this past friday, we all got together for dinner and drinks.  there is nothing like good girlfriends.  we ate at the ivy.  i kept asking if this was the same "ivy" as in LA but no one knew.  i definitely didn't see any celebrities and in my head the ivy was a lot more glamorous in LA.  i woke up on Sat. and made it my job to go to sephora.  that place is like crack (more on that later).  lenox mall didn't open until 10:00 but as i drove, i passed several yard sales....in a high end neighborhood in atl.  so i had to stop.  one lady tried to get me to buy a fox or maybe it was a mink.  i saw this picture and it made me remember....
yep, it was pink like the one above.  i told her i was a mother of two small children and that i had no where to wear something like that.  maybe i should have gotten it....do you think spit up would come out of it easy?
by 10:00, i was at sephora.  hello, that place is super dangerous.  i wanted new foundation.  i got a lady name karen, who pointed out a lot of areas i need to improve on when it comes to makeup.  in my head i hoped to leave looking like this:
but, if for some random reason you are still reading this, remember that i went out the night before w/ my girlfriends.  so i didn't leave looking like this.  instead, i got a lecture on how i shouldn't sleep in my makeup (which i swear, i usually do not do).  and i was convinced that i need to spend a lot of $$ on NARS makeup.  i was even told that i need to do homework...yes, sephora is a store that sells makeup.  my homework was to buy a good eye cream (should i be insulted) and use a mild exfoliator when i wash my face. any recommendations....b/c i was too broke when i left there to get the expensive eye cream!
okay....that is enough randomness...can you tell i have had a lot of coffee this AM!  tomorrow i will show y'all the demilune i bought at scotts!

haha- I did read your whole post and thought if fit my morning mood- I've used Burt's Bees eye cream before- bit greasy but despite not having particularly sensitive skin I find that often eye creams burn my eyes making it impossible to read before bed- such was the case with the DFF $40 plus eye cream I got at Sephora that I never really used-

As a fellow cracphora addict I understand the predicament one can find themself in when wandering into said territory. The Sephora at Lenox can be a little intimidating...as far as eye cream goes, Bobbie Brown makes a great one and being an esthetician I have to let you know that Teamine by Revision and Elastiderm by Obagi are killer! Hope you had a great week in ATL...my personal stomping ground=) XO

Haha, this sounds like me when I've had too much coffee. Loved the post! Sephora is dangerous and the ladies there (and some men...) make you feel like you're the crappiest person alive for not exfoliating/peeling/layering on $500 cream every night. I always spend way too much cash when I go! Argh!

Ha, I am totally the same when it comes to not sleeping – that would totally be me with all the different scenarios and praying. My husband finds it hilarious then to wind me up further! If only hot pink nail varnish would solve this!!

Oh Sephora is too much isn't it?!? I could spend hours there and not leave with enough. As for an exfoliating cleanser, I know Philosophy has a good one, but if you want something drug-store-easy I would suggest Olay or Aveeno. I think they both have good exfoliating washes. I love your blog btw! Thanks for making me laugh!

I know this scenario making.. I do the same thing. It's crazy. I hate being that way but I just am.
And same with Sephora. Which I need to go to so badly.
Last time I was there I was sold on the whole Caudelie line. Loved the serum and eye cream. And the night cream was ok. But not fabulous and it should be for the cost. But alas I'm totally out of everything and all at once. I'm afraid to head back in because I know it is going to cost me an arm and a leg.

Anyhow I laughed when i saw how the sales girl recommended eye cream. Dont worry I asked at Ulta what kind of shampoo they suggested and she said one for Dry hair!!! haha Im like What?! my hair isn't dry! hahah

Arbonne has good options and they aren't too expensive. I love the products and have had nothing but good results! Look for something with vitamin A and E

Yours is the 1st design blog I started reading!!! I am a super scaredy cat and our big rough looking, sweet boxer dog died 2 months ago & now I am even more scared. BUT I can tell you for a fact & personal experience, the Ivy in LA is WAY overrated & the only reasons celebrities eat there is when they need instant PR.

Shannon, you are so funny. If I saw that truck in my hood, I would have called the police. I am a scardy cat from watching to many tv shows.

Sephora is awesome. Whenever I am in there, there is so much to look at that I get totally confused. I do know that there is nothing that will take wrinkles away, only make them less noticable. I will say that exfolitation is important to remove dead skin so that the moisturizer can penatrate the skin.

Good luck.

Sounds like alot of FUN randomness...I was wondering if you were going out of town to Scotts? Been to the Ivy in LA when I was 19...only star I saw was Gary Seneese (Forest Gump's friend)...was hoping more like Brad Pitt, oh well! Anyway, I would be super afraid to see what the girls at Sephora say to me (I am not as much of a product girl as I should be:) Anyway, hope your week is going well.

The Ivy in LA is so not glamorous but yes you will see "someone" and you will see a very large bill at the end.

for the fash washing...get a Clarisonic if you want to spend the money OR Oil of Olay makes a facial cleansing brush that is only $30. it works wonders for exfoliation and is super gentle. i have been using the Olay version for just under a month and the texture of my face is completely different. just offering my 2cents :)

Oooooh, I used to live in Greenville, SC and the Sephora at Lennox was my little piece of escapism. So pleased to hear it has stayed afloat once I left (am in NZ now). Loved your post - post kids my mind constantly works in bites like that! Annie x.

I love your blog. After I have had my coffee, I feel like I talk super fast and have a whole lot to say. I hope this doesn't sound crazy, but I thought I saw you at Scotts last weekend. I am a designer in Birmingham and have been following your blog for a while so I totally recognized you. I am glad you had a good weekend.

I love walking out of Sephora with a tiny bag and no money left in my wallet, AFTER having the sales person kill my self esteem, lol. Great post!!

I worry about eye cream a lot! How can a tiny pot cost $60!?? I think Clinque's is good, and it's not uber-expensive. But sometimes I try to be thrifty...so I got some Garnier from Kroger (it was only so-so). Someone else told me to just buy Vitamin E cream from the drugstore, I haven't gone that low yet.

Hi Shannon,

I am so happy that I found your blog. I love all of your decor inspiration and it is so wonderful to see all of your successes. Here is my tip for inexpensive and highly effective eye cream: Aquaphor. $4 a tube and it will last you forever. I only use it at night, since it is so thick and for day eye cream I use Clinique. The Aquaphor is super versatile. You can use it as cuticle cream and lip balm, too. I've passed your blog on to Ashley and my mom - they love it, too. As a side note - your mom is the best. I love to read and I think she helped start that early for me at her super special Story Time at the library.

Cheers,

Rachel

I just found your blog and I love it! It's so cute and I can't wait to read on more!

Also, I would have had the same reaction to that van--dreaming up all of the worst-case scenarios and praying.
