for a long time i have been dying to paint my interior doors a deep chocolate brown.  it's one of those things that just needs to "happen" while my husband's away at work (men don't get the importance of a good door color).  i need to buy the paint and just do one door a day.....so here's the thing....once i start, do i do all of my doors or do you think some can be left white??  this could take awhile and i've been known to get bored w/ projects :)

I think painting the doors brown will add such intrigue and depth to your rooms. Go for it! If you need to leave a few doors white as you go along in the process, leave them white. If it bothers you or looks out of balance, paint the rest brown. I think you will end up wanting to do all of them in brown! :)

We're building and I asked a very similar question on a forum last week! Only I'm contemplating charcoal or black doors. We have several vestibule areas that have a main door leading into alcoves that house other rooms. (powder room, office, laundry room, etc). So I wasn't sure if all dark doors in those areas would be overkill. I got a mixed response. Several said some dark and leaving some white would be just fine. I'm thinking about just going for the all dark in the main spaces but leaving the kids' doors inside their rooms white. I can't wait to see yours when you do it!!

Those are gorgeous images. I'm always scared of dark paint. I had a bad experience with navy blue (my painting skills leave a bit to be desired).

I have the paint and still can't motivate myself to start painting them! I am just doing the doors in my hallway bedrooms and bath, the rest in my house will stay white for now. We live in an old house, so every room has a door. No open floor plan. If I painted every door, it might take the rest of my life to finish ;)

Love the idea, go for it!!

It will look awesome! We're doing this with a design client right now and it's going to look amazing- not all your doors would have to be chocolate brown, throw out the "rules" and do what YOU want!

I painted my interior doors a glossy black while husband was at work otherwise he would have killed me but he LOVES it and so do I, It is time consuming and make sure to use the smoothest and GOOD roller otherwise it will be super streaky :(

I started painting my interior doors black about 5 years ago and at first it was simple but then i got bored so I called in my painters who got it done in one day and didn't charge much at all. I also left some doors white such as my pantry door which is a smaller door and the upstairs bedroom doors. I love the look and don't think I will ever have white doors again...

Shannon - I painted all of mine Urbane Bronze by Sherwin Williams - love them more every time I look at them. Go for it!

Go for it. Its just paint. If it looks bad you can always paint over them. I think it will look good.

We did just the doors that lead to the outside in a glossy black. I know I'm biased, but I think it works. I think you can do just some if there is a method to your madness!

Do it!!!! Most of my doors are black, but my white eating area has a beautiful ORANGE door. I love it. It's the door we go out of all the time and just makes you smile.

Shannon! youre channeling my wavelength! I just painted my front door (well, the interior part) and my french door on the side of my living room a dark navy (black is way too putrid for me and my skintone, so i couldnt do it to my house). I was just wondering the same thing. Would love to paint the laundry room door, that is visible from the same room the other two are in. But not sure I want to commit.

think it may be ok to do some and not others. at least im gonna make it ok in my house :)

I painted the doors in my house high gloss black (my house is mid century modern with eclectic decor).... I did all the doors black but left closets in the bedrooms white because I didn't want it to conflict with the design/scheme of the room. I say go for.... everyone always comments on my doors and I love them. They add so much to the house.

I would say start with a major door as in one that will have the most impact ... then keep going if you LOVE it or leave it if you get your brown door fix.

I love dark doors. My glass paneled pantry door and two sets of french doors into my TV room are painted black and they absolutely make all the difference but I wouldn't want all of my doors painted.....I would suggest being strategic about where you'd like to draw the eye for fear of otherwise drawing too much attention to doors everywhere!

Hmm, I am loving all these references to Urbane Bronze and will have to go check it out. I'm a huge fan of painted doors. Can't wait to see what you do!

i feel ya' on the getting bored w/ projects - that's my husbands biggest complaint :) we live in a older house where every room has a door so i started with just the kitchen (door, pantry door, door to dining room, and interior window trim) and i LOVE IT! i so want it to spread throughout the house...but sadly...i get bored with projects. so many half-done projects - i should really dedicate this summer to FINISHING them!
