**warning** this is a mom post:
i just sat down with my cold coffee (i've reheated it several times already this AM) to take a minute and peek at pinterest...it's my guilty pleasure.  once the hustle and bustle of the AM routine is done and everyone is out the door, i like to take 20 minutes and cruise pinterest w/ my coffee cup in hand.  i didn't get far this morning.  i saw one pic, that wasn't a beautifully styled LR, DR, or kitchen, it just said "how to be a fun mom" and i clicked.  literally, my eyes started tearing up after reading the first two sentences...it felt like it was coming straight from my household.  the article is about letting your guard down and taking time to be a "fun" parent.  my husband is 150% the fun parent. it's no secret in this household.  when he comes home from work, he immediately runs and starts chasing the kids around the room (last night they all had neckties around their head b/c they were playing ninjia or something like that...i was in the kitchen cooking).  i wish i was a fun parent.  i'm by no means trying to whine, but it's hard when you are a mother that works from home...i feel like i am running a race the second my alarm clock goes off....it's all about "getting it done".  i really struggle w/ separating roles...i juggle work and emails in the spare moments of my day between dropping kids off, cleaning the house, laundry, going to the grocery store, nap time, car pool lines, dance, art, etc.  at times, i have found myself jealous that warren gets to be "fun," which is silly of me b/c i could easily do it....reading this post made me aware that it's ok to be silly, to let your guard down, and to take time to make yourself "fun" again.  i needed to read this this AM, it's nice to know that other moms out there struggle in the same ways.  thanks for pinning it dawn :)  xo- Shannon

Shannon, have you heard of A Band of Wives? It's a social network and "club" for women that my aunt started, and I think you would like it! It's all about about women being wives for each other. This "mom post" made me think of it. http://abandofwives.ning.com

Check it out if you like!

I am a mom of three and I work outside of the home. I feel all of these things you just said, daily. I get so down on myself because I can't keep up, that I totally forget to be "fun" and enjoy life.

Thank you for the reminder.

I think you just summed up every single mom's feelings, working outside, inside, non-working, etc. It's a heavy load to carry no matter what and hard work to keep a household together and running! I never feel like I'm any fun to my lil guy, especially at 39 weeks and 6 days preggo (today!)...

thank you so much for posting this. As a mom of two very young girls, i struggle with not letting my work stress bleed over to my evenings with my girls. I really only have 2-3 hours with them before they're off to bed each night and i want to be fun in that time!! Have a great (and fun) weekend :)

Hi! My name is Jen and I am a new mom, My little Margaux is a month old! I follow your blog religiously and I most appreciated this post about being the "fun" parent. Right now I am on my maternity leave and my husband has just returned to work. It is so hard to have fun and enjoy the little things when you feel so strapped down! I am such a scheduled person and I am having difficulty letting go. From the outside looking in you always seem like you are having fun and living in the moment with your kids...but I guess that is the power of perception! Regardless, thanks for being so real- I needed a dose of that today! Fondly, Jen

I hear ya girl...I use to turn up the ipod dance with Mia while cooking...and now cooking involves back and forth from the homework table....makes me think I need to change things up! One thing I started doing as well and has made me feel so much better is put down the phone when the kids are around...ok to pick up if it rings, but no need to be checking email, pinterest etc...it can wait until they go to bed. Nothing is that important than missing out on interaction with the kiddos as they will be grown up before you know it! By the way...you are a fun mom!!!

I ran across your blog today - and then I found this post... and I am right there with you. You hit the nail on the head, completely. It's hard work being a mom, add in work & other expectations (like taking a shower or brushing your own hair) and things start to get out of hand, haha. Thanks for posting about this, it's nice to know others struggle with this internal battle and are comfortable enough to share it with others.
