happy 4th!

so today is the official start of the holiday...at least here at pinkwallpaper. taylor and i began the morning w/ a trip to ABC where we feasted on muffins and coffee (tay opted for a sippy cup). now, i have to finish packing and then the fam is off to the mountains....usually on the 4th we are at the beach but this year we decided to mix it up and go see our new addition to the family, our nephew who was born on the best day- my b'day :)...anyways, i hope y'all have a wonderful and safe 4th! i hope to get into some antique shopping- they have the best ones there! and i can't wait to eat ribs- a tradition that i have grown up doing...and maybe get in a little time at the pool...ta ta for now!! pic is MS living...who else has time to create a spread like that?

mother's day...

i can't believe i am now a member of the ladies who celebrate "mother's day"...sometimes i think, gosh i'm a mom....that sounds so old and i am not old!! well, i actually kind of am (going to be 29 in three wks). but you know what, i wouldn't change it for the world. being a mother is a wonderful thing. it might make you crazy at times (i have to go into her room several times before going to sleep to make sure she is breathing) but no one can prepare you for all the happiness you will experience from this little 20 lb (okay she eats a lot...she might weigh more) bundle of joy. so if any of you are in the same club, i hope you have a wonderful day. i have a wonderful mother and mother-in-law to look up too and i couldn't ask for better grandmothers for tay! love y'all!!

roses are red, violets are blue....

that over rated crap just won't do!!
i don't know about y'all but valentine's day is a lame holiday. i think once you are out of high school and past the teddybears and heart-shaped boxes of chocolate phase, it's just a silly day! so if you want the key to my heart don't waste your time or money on those creepy baby's breath rose bouquets...give me some wine(preferably over the $12 range b/c after all it is a holiday) and a mother truckin' cupcake to devour and i will be on cloud nine.....hint, hint valentine.

welcoming 2008

i am so sorry that i have been away for so long (although it was kind of nice)! today starts back my "normal routine"...no more traveling, no more fatty eating, no more husband at home to enjoy the day with. it's sad that it's over but we had an amazing holiday. i cannot tell you how wonderful it is to have a sweet baby to share in the joy of Christmas. it made everything so much better...even though she is too young to know what is going on and she enjoyed the wrapping paper far more then any presents!

now it's time to face reality and start fresh in 2008. i didn't make any specific resolutions- although i did think of some general things i would like to do in 2008. i really just want to make this year happy, healthy, and as much as possible- stress free! so i an attempt to get things going right, i started my day off with The Firm- totally kicked my butt and i am sure that i looked hysterical doing it. my dog was very confused; he wanted to lick the resistance band and sit on my yoga pad w/ me. i am glad i did this in the privacy of my own home and that my husband is at work b/c he would totally be laughing at me! i am also going to try and read more (mom, doesn't this make you proud) and watch less tv. right now i am reading An Affair With a House (well its actually more of a design/coffee table book but it still counts). now that tax season is approaching, i want to be better at my books for 2008. i need to enlist someone to help me organize(any volunteers :)) . and lastly, i want to TRY and be less messy. i told my husband last night, that it's just really hard for me. but i was reading Shape mag and they suggest that a clean house makes for a happier person....i'll let you know how i do! Happy 2008...design post will begin again next week.

OH MY christmas tree...

well, isn't that great, my tree decided that it wanted to be the leaning tower of Pisa this AM... luckily, i saved Christmas and rescued it. i had to do a little speaker phone action to my husband at work in order to save the crazy thing. it was about to eat my wing chair and then the floor! we thought we would be ahead of the game and bought this super- duper tree stand that swivels so if you have a crooked tree trunk, it doesn't matter...well that thing swiveled a little too much apparently last night...

you better watch your back martha...

because the darby's don't play around!!! seriously, i think we did pretty darn good! and the best part was that my husband actually got into painting one of them. i did the cream background reindeer and he did the chocolate background reindeer. not that it's a competition...but come on, mine is the best! hee hee. anyways, this was a lot of fun, easy to do and makes a great statement when you walk into our house at Christmas time! oh, and i also did the snowballs...don't know if they are blogger-worthy though but i like them none-the-less!!

christmas time is here!!!

so since its officially christmas time- as of tomorrow, i will now begin to write posts relating to my FAV holiday. if i can beat this cold, my husband and i will begin to decorate tomorrow. it's total chaos when this starts- mainly b/c of the outside lights. we always try to come up with some awesome way to do them and then they end up being incredibly tacky and shorting out our power b/c we have too many lights connected together. two years ago, we actually caught the bushes on fire...who knew it wasn't good to leave the lights on in the rain? i almost peed myself when i saw the sparks....luckily,it ended very quickly.
i am trying to reinvent my interior christmas decor...my problem is, i can't remember what all i have until the boxes are down from the attic. i was thinking this year i would try to step it up a notch and paint this adorable reindeer that was featured in domino last year....yea, don't hold your breath but it is a great thought. i mean, i really think i can do things like this and then i buy the supplies and the excitement fizzles. or i think it would be cute to do a series of reindeer parts like these cards and hang them in a grouping. i'll give you an update on monday....

i am not martha...

so i totally hesitated in showing y'all this but i said that i would so here it is. our 2nd annual pumpkin carving happened on sunday night and here are the results. as you can see everyone else used a pumpkin stencil and then there is mine (top one, in case you couldn't tell). i wanted to be martha stewart and try something creative and original...well, unfortunately my pumpkin is awful. you know, i am an interior designer and so i thought i would just be gifted at this whole pumpkin carving thing...not so much. for those of you that are confused (believe me, my husband and neighbors got a huge laugh out of mine) i was going for cute "dots"....i started out great (i thought) by scalloping the top edge of the pumpkin. then i got out the drill (real funny, me w/ a power drill) and things were still going okay. i did a little four dot design in the scalloped edge part. the next step is when my neighbor sabotaged me and told me to use a drill attachment to make the big holes (it was the attachment you use to make a hole in the back of your armoire for the tv cables)....and that's when everything went terribly wrong. poor, poor pumpkin. i disgraced it and martha! next year i'm going back to the pumpkin stencil....

*side note- using a drill on a pumpkin causes mad chaos in the kitchen...pumpkin guts go everywhere!

happy october

can you believe that its october??!! that's insanity. i feel like this summer flew by but maybe that's because i had a baby....i spent my summer learning how to change diapers, calm a screaming kid, and sing silly songs (something that i am personally not good at...my latest is "let me ride that donkey, donkey"...which is in turn a rap song...but she knows no difference).

now that i am a new mother, i feel like i have to fully get into halloween...does that mean that i now have to decorate my house w/ cobwebs and spooky ghost and witches? i mean, i am totally into christmas decor but i haven't ever been into halloween. well, besides the pumpkin that me and warren carve. we use to be awful at doing these...we would enjoy a 12-pack of beer and get out our best tj-maxx knife and some random soup spoon and go at the poor pumpkin. and let me tell you, what came out of that combo was quite hilarious.

however last year, we had a pumpkin party with our neighbors. my mom (who loves shopping the 75% off rack) had given up a "pumpkin carving kit" and the creation we made was definitely prize worthy. but this year, i want to create something beyond the jack-o-lantern face, or the spider, or the ghost...something a little "prettier" and more martha stewart. i love this idea of the house numbers (only my house has a lot of numbers so i am not sure it would look this cute)...i'll be sure to take a picture at this year's "2nd annual" pumpkin carving contest!
