are we there yet??

i am currently working on a very nice spec (7,000 sq ft) home. and i am battling w/ the lighting....i want to know if the general public is there yet- are you ready for bronze/ antique brass to be back in your home? it is definitely coming back in a large way but are we ready for it? i think there is some great stuff out there right now and if i commit to putting it in this spec home is the general public going to know that it's making a big come back or are they going to view it as dated.....and then, say i do introduce it as the kitchen pendants and the DR chandelier am i commited to do every bathroom fixture in that finish...

I'm there already! So, JOIN ME! I've got hand rubbed antique brass spec'd all over the place. I like a mix... so bring it on girl!

Yes, yes, YES! We just used it in our home! When we started remodelling, that were very few options, so originally we went with an antique brushed nickel. Then more and more of the bronze popped up. Now we are in the process of converting.

Oh..and I am a stickler for door knobs, hinges, fixtures, and faucets coordinating in style/finish. But that is just me. And I am not a designer. Just someone a little obssessed with decorating my home. Okay, okay so maybe I did got to architecure school with a focus on Interior Design. But whatever.

I think the awesome thing about being a designer is educating the general public that you CAN mix and match as long as it's done tastefully. I say do it.

It will show you as the trendsetter and show your knowledge of what's coming next. Some will definitely not like it, but I bet once they see it everywhere in a few months, they'll be the very ones talking about how they saw it first in your spec home.

Love the dark bronze look but I also mix and match. It makes a home feel comfortable. The finish on the piece you posted is very nice and does not look too brassy to me.

first oa all, love your blog! i am a designer in austin, texas... i love the bronze look, but in my opinion, the public isn't there yet. i think it would be fabulous to do if you were working with a client. but when working with builders, the main goal is to sell it for them and i think it is an easier sell in oil rubbed bronze hardware, drum shades, recessed lighting, etc. post pictures of whatever you decide to do!

DO IT!! I'm taking the plunge in our new (120 year old new) house and I can't wait. Its warm and delicious, maybe contrasted with some of those gorgeous BM grey tones. And I know all about no spell checker, WTH????

I have to agree with anon to a certain degree. The general public is not as sophisticated as we all might like. However, you have a better idea of what the market is where you are. And I would hope that someone buying a 7,000 sq. ft. home would have a bit of knowledge about design, but in my experience, money does NOT equal taste. I love what you want to do, and I do not think it all has to match. I think it has alot more personality if it doesn't...like it has been collected over time. Good luck and I would love to see the results! :)

Oh my gosh I love that fixture in the picture. Is that a pendant light? I want that!! Would that work in a kitchen? I believe Ralph Lauren does a lot of that bronze/antique brass that you're talking about.
